A translation is never an end in itself — it has to be accepted somewhere. That is why I always ask first what you need it for: that determines whether the original is required, how names are spelled and whether an apostille belongs with it.

“Translated” is not enough for an authority. A translation that gets accepted always carries these four things. How to check for them is set out here — even if you commission someone else.
The certification note
At the end of the translation stands the declaration that the rendering is complete and correct — naming the language and the court that administered the oath. Without this note it is not a certified translation.
Stamp and signature
A round stamp with name, language and sworn status, plus the handwritten signature. That is the first thing the case worker looks for.
Firmly attached to the source
The translation is attached to a printout or copy of the source document, so that it stays clear which document was translated.
A faithful rendering
Stamps, seals, handwritten notes and anything illegible are named, not quietly left out. Names too are rendered according to the rules of transliteration — the way registry offices require.
Do I have to bring in the original?
Never for the quote — a phone photo is enough. For the translation itself it depends on what the receiving authority requires: some offices accept a translation made from a copy, others insist that the source was an original or a certified copy. I clarify that with you before I start — so that you do not pay twice.
The same applies to an apostille or legalisation: it concerns the foreign document itself, not my translation. If your authority requires one, I will tell you in which order to proceed.

Certified translations are valid throughout Germany. So you do not have to live in Erding to commission me: the paper goes out by post, with a scan by e-mail beforehand if the authority accepts an advance copy.
